Kalingarayan Gounder was born as lingaya Gounder in the year 1240CE in the Kongu region.When the pandiyan Kings expanded the territory the kongunaud was annexed. Jatavarman Veera Pandian II appointed him as the chieftain of this region.
He Constructed the 56.2mi (90.5Km) long Kalingarayan Canal for the irrigation purpose.
